My Nephew’s christening is approaching. Well, it’s my Cousin’s little boy, which I think technically makes him my second cousin, but Uncle Michael sounds better than Second Cousin Michael. Although S-C-M makes me sound like I should be in Downton. Seriously - look sullen, hold a telegraph and say “Oh, Second Cousin Michael is coming to visit for supper” in Lady Mary’s voice – uncanny no?! To be honest I’d quite enjoy a weekend at the Abbey, but I’d probably get killed off in a country fete disaster involving scones. Although it maybe worth it to receive a side eye from Maggie Smith. Just maybe…
As usual, I find myself in a scone related tangent, back to the point.
I do not want to be that person that gives everybody knitted presents (“Oh, another scarf! in July! No really…it’s lovely.. I’ll put it next to last years tea cosy…”), but every so often I like to think a nice hand made gift is perfectly acceptable. Especially when they’re 6 months old and can’t complain.
I’d had a pattern for a teddy saved in my bookmarks for ages (a thrilling insight in to my exhilarating life…) and this seemed like the perfect time to use it.
One problem. This idea came to me on Monday. The christening is on Sunday. It's now probably Thursday.
Now, it’s hardly the next series of 24 (or is it?!), but I’m not the quickest of knitters so the pressure was on (sort of, if I didn’t finish it, I’d only told Rita so no one need know i'd failed this challenge.)
After finishing the body, I thought it might be quite nice to personalise it, as it’s a christening gift. I considered getting a sharpie and writing a big G on it, whilst time saving, that would probably ruin the whole aesthetic. So I ventured in to the world of, Hold on to your hats, duplicate stitching. (Lovely tutorial here) and added a nice big G to the front of it.
I am officially Molly Weasley.

T Minus 24 hours
It’s now Saturday, and I’m on the train up north, in my bag is a teddy with attached arms, one finished leg and one leg needing making up, stuffing and attaching. It’s like Animal Hospital, but knitted, and without the awkward post Operation Yewtree connotations.

I have arrived in The North, I have braved Liverpool One on a Saturday dress shopping with Rita. (Think the attack on The Wall in GoT, but more tanned and in John Lewis...)
And as if that was not stressful enough apparently there is an England match on, something about the World Cup? Football? Who knew?
I have taken refuge with sarcasm and wine.
On the upside, the challenge is complete!
One week, one teddy and hopefully one happy nephew!

Now to wait until after the Christening to post this...
