Channeling my inner Mary Berry & Paul Hollywood. (BERRYWOOD!?! WHY HAS THIS NOT BECOME A THING?! They could definitely be the new Brangelina / Tomkat / Bennifer. Make it happen people!) I donned my floral scarf, blue contacts, threw flour in my hair and cranked up the Scouse. (Or i put on an apron, i'll leave it up to you to decide which) and set about the GBBO series 3 infamous technical challenge...The 8 strand plaited loaf.... To quote The Great Run DMC... It goes a little something like this: On to the next step. I think the recipe missed a trick here when no-one said "make an octopus out of dough". Because that's what we're all thinking. Don't deny it. There's nothing freudian about it. Don't worry. Pervert. Then came my favourite bit, because you get to pretend to be Carol Vorderman. In the good old Countdown days though, not this Loose Women malarkey that she's up to at the moment. And go 1 from the top over two from the bottom and over 6 from anywhere else..repeat till you've ran out of dough and are just left muttering numbers to yourself. | Then by some miracle/witchcraft, i strongly suspect the latter, you are left with.. The next part isn't mentioned in the recipe, nor is it mentioned in any cookbook, but it's all they seem to do on Bake Off: you sit on the floor and stare in to your oven saying things like: "Now..?" "No..." "Oh maybe i should have...no not yet.." "Is that GOLDEN brown..or just brown?" "Can i open the door?" "This door needs a clean" "When did i last clean this door?" "Do other people clean their oven doors? "STOP TALKING ABOUT THE DOOR, THE BREAD'S BURNING!" "Oh... no... wait... that's just the dirt on the door making it look like it's burnt....it's ok." "Did i set the timer?".... Until you're left a complete and utter shell shocked mess clutching this... So the moral of the story is...you get to make bread that looks and tastes lovely. But at some point, whether you're muttering numbers to yourself or sat on the floor talking to a fibreglass reflection of yourself, you will look insane. Swings and Roundabouts. The recipe i used can be found here Give it a go! :) x |
