Last time i went "home home" (it's similar to going "out out"), I found one side of the dining room covered with wool. Now, Rita (Mother - remember that, she'll probably feature again at some point) hadn't finally flipped and sheared the sheep in the back field. Although that is only inevitable. My Nana, who sadly passed this year, had a lot of wool left over from various projects which she never got round to completing. Now, never one to say no to a challenge, i thought i'd give it a go. How hard could it be? The answer it turns out was...Quite. 'Start small' i thought, so i tried a pattern from Innocent's Big Knit. A great cause, Google it. Moving on up (10 points if you sang that as Heather Small, if not, give it a go. Go on. There we go) I thought normal size hat was next. | In retrospect, i should have tried a medium sized project in between, i mean the natural progression is bottle hats, baby hats, normal hats? Right? I'm sure i've heard that somewhere. I Digress. I Thought i'd try a beanie hat for me. Searching the tinter web for patterns i came across this one: http://www.helenlimbrick.com/2012/01/knitted-slouch-beanie-hat.html (i enjoy a man who can pull off a pom pom scarf) So, in at the deep end i dove (dived? dave? hello Dave.) Of course i couldn't find the appropriate wool and started on the wrong needles (if you're a novice like me, patterns appear like Russian - so many different needles, so many types of wool.) So Rita transcribed the pattern and started me off on the right (ish) track. Thank you Helen for posting the pattern! Once i got the hang of it it was fairly simple to follow! However i will now go back a step and start making some baby hats for the litter of sprogs that my sister/cousins/2nd cousins are growing! :) x |
